Dubuque County Master Gardener Training

Presented by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach

Master Gardeners are individuals who have an interest in horticulture, have taken the Master Gardener training offered by Iowa State University Extension, and share their time and expertise with other gardeners. It is the acquisition of knowledge, the skill in gardening, and giving back to the community that distinguishes a Master Gardener from other gardeners.

During the training several current Master Gardeners and Extension specialists will be on hand to answer questions and deliver training sessions about houseplants, vegetables, and herbaceous ornamentals. Other sessions will be brought to the Dubuque County Extension Conference Center through Adobe Connect distance learning technology including sessions about botany and soils, landscape plants, entomology, fruit culture, turf grass, and landscape design. One class will be held at Iowa State University Campus in Ames.

The first class will be held on January 21, 2014 from 6:00 - 9:00pm.  Classes will be held most Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Dubuque County Extension Office through March 13th. The full training schedule will be posted here soon.

If registered by January 10, 2014, the charge for the class is $195 including all sessions and materials. Sponsored by Green Dubuque, Iowa Waste Reduction Center, Representative Charles Isenhart - ranking member of the Environmental Protection Committee, Iowa State University Extension, Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency, the City of Dubuque and Loras College, the workshop will examine the problem and local solutions from various perspectives, including economic opportunities, feeding hungry people, composting, environmental sustainability and public policy options.
